You Built the Automation. It Worked. Then It Didn’t. Here’s Why.

Here’s what we see time and again: the tools themselves aren’t broken. Zapier, Make, and Power Automate all do exactly what they’re designed to do. The issue is that they were only ever designed to do one thing well, connect a trigger to an action. They are layer one tools, and layer one tools have nothing beneath them to catch what they miss.

There’s no error handling layer to manage the unexpected. No data validation layer to catch bad inputs before they cascade into bad outputs. No monitoring layer to flag a silent failure before it becomes a client facing problem. No orchestration layer to manage what happens when three systems need to talk to each other in sequence, not just in a straight line. And critically, no ownership layer, because the person who built it is not the person maintaining it, and often nobody is maintaining it at all.

So when the flow breaks, it doesn’t feel like a tooling issue. It feels like proof that automation itself was the wrong bet.
